KELLOGG — Kellogg High School will be hosting FAFSA Night on Thursday evening at Kellogg High School and available spots are limited.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a form completed by prospective college students to determine their eligibility for student financial aid, including access to grants, loans and work study, and is also required by many scholarships.

The application period opened on Oct. 1 and according to KHS Counselor Rachel Weaver, the sooner the application is filled out the better.

“Any senior student who plans to attend college next year should fill out the FAFSA,” Weaver said. “The sooner they complete the application, the sooner the students can hear back from colleges regarding their financial aid package. Also, colleges usually have a set amount of grant money that they are able to give out. This money is often dispersed on a first come first serve basis, based upon student need. So students who apply early will have a better chance of receiving their maximum award package from the college. Some colleges also have financial aid deadlines that are important for students to be aware of.”

For social distancing purposes, space is limited so the school is asking that anyone planning on attending please RSVP.

Students and parents will need to bring both of their social security numbers, as well as 2019 tax returns for both parents and students if applicable.

For the 2019/20 school year, FAFSA provided more than 13 million students with nearly $150 billion for aid.

Kellogg High School’s FAFSA Night is Thursday, Oct. 29, at 5:30 p.m. in the KHS library.
