The usual suspects did their damage for Glacier Tuesday, in the Wolfpack’s straight-sets win over host Flathead in the final crosstown volleyball match of the regular season.

It’s the unusual suspects that may play big roles if the Pack (8-3) rises to the top of the Western AA standings.

Kynzie Mohl had nine kills and Emma Anderson added seven in Glacier’s 25-10, 25-15, 25-16 victory. But Kaylee Fritz, Sidney Gulick and Tori Roo had three kills each, and they seemed timely in what was a quick (one-hour) win.

“She’s been playing really well,” Glacier coach Christy Harkins said of Roo, a senior outside hitter who’s listed at 5-foot-6. “She’s one of those players that knows she’s outsized all the time – everybody is bigger than her out there – so she just goes hard every single play, and it’s really paid off for her. She’s seeing the court really well and doing a lot of good things.”

“I don’t know if I’m even 5-6,” said Roo, who also had four aces and five digs. “I just think as we’re getting closer to playoffs and state, I just want to step up and help. Especially since I’m sort of outsized. I have taller teammates and just want to help them and be part of the team.”

Anderson, who stands 6-2, had the kill that ended Tuesday’s match, and a couple others in which she redirected errant Flathead passes.

Roo checked in with kill and an ace as Glacier pushed away from a 12-7 lead in the first set. Back-to-back aces helped the Pack take command, 21-9, in the second.

Fritz had a pair of touch kills in an 8-1 run that reversed a 9-6 Flathead lead in the third set; Mohl added back-to-back big hits as Glacier’s lead grew to 20-11. Soon it was over – with a backrow kill from Madisyn Frazier making it 24-14.

“We all work really well together, so that makes it more enjoyable,” Roo said.

Flathead had seven kills from Savanna Sterck – four in that strong start to the final set. The Bravettes’ errors helped Glacier greatly in the first two games, and they fell to 1-11.

Glacier is 8-3, with two losses coming to the Helena schools. The Wolfpack will get another crack at the Helena Bengals and Capital Bruins Saturday, at 12:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. at the Glacier gym.

Flathead plays host to Capital at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and Helena comes into the Flathead gym at 4 p.m.
