UPCOMING:

ELECTION 2020-VOTING-OUTSTANDING BALLOTS: Just days before the presidential election, millions of mail-in ballots have still not been returned in key battleground states. Many of those are due in county offices by Tuesday, but the latest Postal Service delivery data suggests it’s too late for voters to drop their ballots in the mail. That’s putting pressure on voters and the two major political parties to make sure ballots are returned on time. UPCOMING: 900 words, photos by 4 p.m. With AP data distribution, AP interactive.

ELECTION 2020-FLORIDA BATTLEGROUND COUNTRY: The last time Florida’s Duval County voted for a Democratic presidential contender was for Jimmy Carter in 1976. Now, Democrat Joe Biden is hoping to break through, while President Donald Trump is defending once solidly Republican turf. As a sign of the region’s importance, Republicans and Democrats have invested heavily to woo voters in Jacksonville, one of Florida’s largest metropolitan areas. UPCOMING: 1090 words, photos by 5 p.m.

SENT/DEVELOPING:

ELECTION 2020: President Donald Trump makes a crunch-time appeal to voters in Nevada, but from Arizona to prevent a repeat of a September rally in Nevada that attracted thousands of people in violation of COVID-19 crowd restrictions. In Delaware, Democrat Joe Biden highlights how he plans to protect insurance coverage for millions of Americans with pre-existing conditions. SENT: 780 words, will be updated throughout the day with Trump's rallies and Biden's events.

ELECTION 2020-AMERICA DISRUPTED-TRUMP VOTERS: President Trump’s campaign has a bold theory for how he will win reelection: It can tap a universe of millions of supporters who did not vote for him in 2016 but will do so this time. Supposedly, these voters are overlooked by polls that show Trump consistently trailing Biden. SENT: 2036 words, photos, graphic. An abridged version is also available.

ELECTION 2020-VOTER ANXIETY: Americans are worried about the Nov. 3 election. President Trump has refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power and called for an army of “poll watchers” to monitor the vote. Rising gun sales have contributed to the worry. Election officials and voting advocates are on high alert. SENT: 900 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-MEDIA: News organizations preparing to follow the vote count next week are preaching caution. This year’s increase in early and mail-in voting will complicate what used to be a fairly cut-and-dried process of reporting election results. SENT: 970 words, photos.

CONGRESS-SOCIAL MEDIA-CEOS: With the election looming, the CEOs of Twitter, Facebook and Google received a lashing from Republican senators at a hearing for alleged anti-conservative bias in their social media platforms and a warning of coming restrictions. SENT: 900 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-BLACK MEN: Get-out-the-vote efforts targeting Black men aren’t just about persuading them to choose Biden over Trump. This year, following an unprecedented surge of protests against racial injustice and the killing of Black people by law enforcement, partisan and nonpartisan organizations have poured significant resources into increasing Black men’s participation in the election. SENT: 1150 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -SAVE-THE-CHILREN-CONSPIRACY-THEORY: Conversations citing “Save the Children” have spiked on social media, and some supporters of the movement have taken to streets to call for an end to child trafficking. But their catchphrase was made popular by conspiracy theorists promoting QAnon, and has nothing to do with the well-respected humanitarian organization with the same name. SENT: 1000 words, photos.

FILM-ELECTION-YEAR-DOCUMENTARIES: The election has unleashed an avalanche of documentaries like no season before it. Dozens of films, exploring issues from gerrymandering to white supremacists, have sought to illuminate the many issues and trends voters are confronting at the polls. SENT: 930 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-OHIO-BELLWEATHER-COUNTY-OHIO: Ohio is again up for grabs in the presidential election. But only a handful of the state’s counties have reliably gotten the outcome right going back over many decades. Wood County in Ohio’s northwest corner sits just south of Toledo and is a mix of suburbs and farm communities. Only once since 1964 has it not picked the presidential winner. This year both parties believe the perennial swing county is trending their way. SENT: 700 words, photos.
