EPHRATA — A Moses Lake man was sentenced to just under a year in jail, with his sentence suspended for two years, after pleading guilty to charges related to an April incident in which he reportedly threw a kitchen knife at a woman, according to court documents.
Scott Robert Diefenbach, 64, pleaded guilty to two counts of fourth-degree assault, one of which had a domestic violence modifier. As his entire sentence was suspended, he will only serve jail time for the offense if he breaks the conditions of his release within the next two years.
Police responded in the 24000 block of Road 25 Southwest after someone called 911 and left the line open. After officers arrived, the victim told them that she and her friend were cooking dinner when Diefenbach walked into the kitchen and began yelling, before taking a foot-long kitchen knife and throwing it toward the victim, according to court documents. The knife landed on the counter, where the victim reportedly grabbed it and hid it.
Diefenbach reportedly grabbed a bar stool and attempted to hit the victim with it, and the victim sprayed him with pepper spray, according to court documents. The victim was able to get away and run outside, which is when Diefenbach reportedly took her friend’s phone by force and broke it so she couldn’t call the police.
