GRANT COUNTY — An Othello man who died in a Monday traffic accident at the intersection of state Route 262 and state Route 26 has been identified as 31-year-old Payan Medinairrael, according to a press release Tuesday night.

Medinairrael had been traveling southbound on state Route 262 around 4 p.m. Monday when he ran a stop sign at the intersection with state Route 26. His vehicle struck the rear trailer of a semi-truck driven by Ismael Silva, 45, of Moses Lake, hauling milk. Medinairrael’s vehicle was pinched between the truck’s trailers, according to law enforcement.

First responders attempted to extricate Medinairrael’s vehicle, but he was declared dead at the scene. Law enforcement initially struggled to identify Medinairrael, as the vehicle ownership had changed twice without any updates to the vehicle’s registration, according to state Trooper John Bryant.

Silva was not injured.

The collision caused road closures for several hours as crews worked to investigate the scene, as well to clean debris and milk off the roadway.
