SENT/DEVELOPING:

ELECTION 2020: President Trump dangled a promise of getting a weary, fearful nation “back to normal” on Friday as he looked to campaign past the political damage of the devastating pandemic. It was a tantalizingly rosy pitch in sharp contrast to Democratic rival Joe Biden, who pledged to level with America about tough days still ahead after Tuesday’s election. SENT: 900 words, photos. Will be updated from Trump events at 4 p.m. and 6:45 p.m., Biden events at 4:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

ELECTION 2020 - BIDEN-IOWA: Joe Biden is bringing his case against President Trump’s handling of the coronavirus to one of the states hit hardest by the pandemic. Iowa has long had one of the nation’s highest rates of infections. It’s again experiencing a spike similar to those hitting dozens of states nationwide. The public health and economic crises resulting from the pandemic are part of why Democrats see an opening in a state that Trump won by nearly 10 points in 2016. SENT: 800 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-TEXAS: Texans have already cast more ballots in the presidential election than they did during all of 2016, an unprecedented surge of early voting in a state that was once the country’s most reliably Republican, but may now be drifting toward battleground status. SENT: 900 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-TRUMP RALLIES-END OF AN ERA : As President Trump battles for reelection, what’s become a fixture of American politics for the last five years also hangs in the balance: the Trump campaign rally. The events have spawned friendships, businesses and a way of life for Trump’s most dedicated supporters, who have traveled the country to be part of what they describe as a movement that could outlive Trump’s presidency. SENT: 1200 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-RUSSIAN INTERFERENCE: Russian interference has been minimal so far in the most tempestuous U.S. presidential election in decades. But that doesn’t mean the Kremlin can’t inflict serious damage. The vulnerability of state and local government networks is a big worry. SENT: 1090 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-SUPREME COURT POLITICS: More than 81 million Americans have already voted in the presidential election, but Trump thinks he can count on one hand the votes that will determine the outcome. “I think this will end up in the Supreme Court,” he said last month of the election. SENT: 700 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-RACE: An unprecedented convergence of three crises that disproportionately affect people of color — the coronavirus pandemic, joblessness and police brutality — has led many to believe this presidential election is a referendum on race relations in America. Black voters will be decisive in the outcome. SENT: 1635 words, photos. An abridged version of 1000 words is also available.

ELECTION 2020-NATIONAL GUARD: Federal laws and long-standing custom generally leave the U.S. military out of the election process. But President Donald Trump’s unsubstantiated warnings about widespread voting irregularities have raised questions about a possible military role. SENT: 960 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -CUBANS-FOR-TRUMP: Florida’s Cuban American voters remain a bright spot in Trump’s effort to retain his winning coalition from 2016. Polls show his strong support from these key voters may even be growing to include the younger Cuban Americans that Democrats once considered their best hope of breaking the GOP’s hold. SENT: 1000 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -MUSLIM TURNOUT: Muslim American groups and activists have organized with a heightened sense of urgency ahead of the election, hoping to maximize voter turnout, especially in battleground states with notable Muslim populations, such as Michigan. SENT; 900 words, photos.
