COCOLALLA — A two-story home was destroyed by fire on Monday, according to Selkirk Fire Rescue & EMS Chief Dale Hopkins.
There were no injuries, Hopkins said.
The structure fire at a residence on Sleepy Cedars Road was reported at 12:34 p.m., according to
Bonner Dispatch records. The road leading to the home was narrow, steep and icy, Hopkins said.
"We had to chain up fire engines to get there," said Hopkins. "Access hampered their arrival."
While heading to the scene, firefighters reported seeing a large column of black smoke emanating from the mountainside.
Firefighters from Selkirk Fire were joined by firefighters from the Timberlake Fire District. While crews attacked the fire with multiple hose lines, the structure could not be saved.
"The entire structure was lost to fire," Hopkins said.
The cause of the fire is undetermined. Hopkins said a wood stove was being used to heat the home, although there was no indication that the appliance played a role in the conflagration.
