POST FALLS — They kept it a bit lower-key, but Post Falls and Coeur d’Alene high schools again honored local cancer survivors with their annual Volleyball 4 the Cure match Tuesday night at the Arena.
Junior Brielle Nagel had 11 kills and 10 digs as Post Falls beat Coeur d’Alene 25-20, 25-23, 25-19 in an Inland Empire League match.
The teams wore pick uniforms, played with a pink volleyball, and had cancer survivors line up with players and coaches prior to the match.
“We still celebrated people that have beaten cancer,” Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said.
The teams did no fundraising this year, with Hanna saying “the timing wasn’t right” to put that kind of burden on business during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kylie Munday had 10 kills for Post Falls (3-0, 1-0 IEL). Claire Holding had 14 digs, Kassie Gardiner 21 assists, Rylee Hartwig two aces.
“We just had several kids that stepped up and played well tonight,” Hanna said. “Our serve-receive was good tonight, we played good defense, and we dug a lot of balls.”
For Coeur d’Alene, 1-1, 1-1), Angela Goggin had 11 kills, Sarah Wilkey six kills and 13 digs, Lauren Phillips six kills, 19 assists and seven digs, Madi Symons six kills, Courtney Garwood 13 assists.
