PHD reports 24 new cases of COVID-19

SANDPOINT — Bonner County added three new confirmed or probable cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the five northern counties to 2,784.

The district said 2,439 cases are closed, which means a Panhandle resident is no longer being monitored, has refused monitoring or has died.

There have been 158 hospitalizations in the Panhandle over the course of the pandemic and seven people remain hospitalized. The virus, which causes COVID-19, is blamed for 48 deaths in four northern counties.

The new infections in Bonner County bring the total number of cases to 226, 22 of which are active. No deaths in Bonner County have been reported as a result of the virus.

Kootenai County added 17 new cases on Wednesday, lifting that county's total to 2,200, 235 of which remain active, according to PHD.

Neither Boundary County nor Shoshone County had any new cases emerge on Wednesday. The former county has had 44 cases, three of which are active, while the latter county has had 196 cases, 60 of which are active, the health district said.

Benewah County added four new cases on Wednesday, bringing the county's total to 117 cases, 25 of which remain active. There were no new cases involving people whose primary county of residency is undetermined. There is one undetermined-residency case, although it is not active, the district said.

The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare reported 296 new confirmed or probable cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, lifting the statewide total to 32,664 cases and 372 fatalities.

The Northeast Tri-County Health District in Washington state reported one new case in Stevens County, bringing the regional total to 206 confirmed cases. Pend Oreille County has had 56 cases, while Stevens County has had 125 cases and one death. Ferry County has had 25 cases, according to NETCHD.

The Montana Department of Public Health reported 183 new confirmed cases of the virus on Wednesday, bringing the statewide total to 7,691 cases, which resulted in 109 deaths. The state said no new cases emerged in Lincoln County, which has had 89 cases, four of which remain active. Sanders County added two new cases, bringing its total to 39 cases, 18 of which are active, according to the state.
