PHD: 23 new cases of COVID-19 in Panhandle

SANDPOINT — The Panhandle Health District reported 23 new confirmed or probable cases of novel coronavirus on Thursday, which includes three new infections in Bonner County.
The new cases bring the total number of cases in the five northern counties to 2,807, according to the health district.
The three new cases in Bonner County bring its total to 229 cases, 23 of which are active, the health district reported.
Kootenai County added 19 new cases, bringing that county's total number of cases over the course of the pandemic to 2,219, 245 of which remain active.
There were no new infections in Boundary County, which has had a total of 44 cases, three of which are active, PHD said.
Shoshone County added one new case on Thursday, nudging its total number of cases to 197. The district said there are 61 active cases in Shoshone County. Benewah County added no new cases on Thursday and has seen 117 cases during the pandemic. Twenty-five of the Benewah County cases are active, the district said.
There is one case involving a person whose primary county of residence is undetermined.
The district said 2,450 cases are considered closed, which pertains to Panhandle residents who are no longer being monitored by public health officials, have refused monitoring or have died.
The virus, which causes COVID-19, is blamed for 48 deaths in four of the state's northern counties. There have been 158 hospitalizations during the outbreak and seven people remain hospitalized, the district said.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare reported 263 new probable or confirmed cases of coronavirus on Thursday, elevating the statewide total to 32,927 cases. The virus has claimed the lives of 372 Idahoans, according to Health & Welfare.
The Northeast Tri-County Health District in Washington state reported three new confirmed cases of the virus, two of which are in Ferry County. The third case emerged in Stevens County, bringing the tri-county total to 209 confirmed cases.
There have been 56 cases in Pend Oreille County and 126 cases in Stevens County, which includes one fatality. Ferry County has had 27 cases, according to NETCHD.
The health district said 15 new cases have emerged in the tri-county area in the last 14 days.
The Montana Department of Public Health reported 184 new confirmed infections on Thursday. The state has had 7,871 cases since the pandemic took hold.
Public health officials in Montana said there were two new confirmed infections in Lincoln County and one new infection in Sanders County. Lincoln County has had 91 cases during the pandemic, but only five cases remain active, according to the state.
Sanders County has had 40 cases of the virus, nine of which remain active, state public health officials said.
