NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Jets have brought back quarterbacks David Fales and Mike White, signing both to their practice squad a day after cutting them.

Fales and White worked with the second-team offense throughout training camp behind starter Sam Darnold. One of the two will likely be active as the backup next Sunday for the season opener at Buffalo.

Veteran Joe Flacco was added to the active roster Saturday after passing his physical, but is likely still a few weeks away from being ready to play following neck surgery. The Jets also have rookie James Morgan, a fourth-round pick, giving them five quarterbacks on the 53-man roster and practice squad.

The Jets also signed 13 other players to the practice squad Sunday, all of whom were in camp with them: running back Josh Adams; wide receivers Lawrence Cager, Josh Malone, Donte Moncrief and D.J. Montgomery; tight ends Bronson Kaufusi and Ross Travis; offensive linemen Corbin Kaufusi and James Murray; and defensive backs Javelin Guidry, Bennett Jackson, Lamar Jackson and Zane Lewis.

NFL teams can add up to 16 players this year — up from 10 — to their practice squad, including six veterans who had accrued any number of seasons in the league, to help manage rosters during the coronavirus pandemic. The Jets still have one open slot.

Offensive lineman Josh Andrews is being re-signed to the 53-man roster, agent Brett Tessler announced on Twitter. Backup tight end and special teams ace Daniel Brown will also be back. Both players had been released Saturday as the Jets got down to their initial 53-player roster. The team hadn't immediately announced corresponding moves.
