SANDPOINT — The annual drawdown of Lake Pend Oreille is set to commence on Sunday, Sept. 20, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The lake's summer pool elevation of 2,062-2,062.5 feet above sea level will begin to recede after that date.

The corps, which operates the Albeni Falls Dam on the Pend Oreille River near Oldtwon, plans to hold an elevation of 2,061 feet to Sunday, Sept. 27. Thereafter, the lake's level will be dropped to 2,060 feet by Wednesday, Sept. 30.

The corps is targeting an elevation of 2,051-2,051.5 feet by Sunday, Nov. 15.

Representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will provide further details on Albeni Falls Dam operations at a joint corps and Idaho Lakes Commission public meeting in October.

Corps topics will cover current and upcoming operations, which includes the fall draft, lake level coordination, weather forecasts and recreation information.

There will also be question-and-answer session following the presentations.
