Driver in two-vehicle collision dies

RITZVILLE — A driver in a collision east of Othello on Sept. 2 has died of his injuries.

The Washington State Patrol announced on Saturday that Brandon Howes, 20, of Elgin, Oregon, died at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane following an accident at state Route 26 and Booker Road.

Howes, WSP stated, was driving a Toyota pickup north on Booker Road and failed to stop at a stop sign at SR-26. Joseph Sunde, 63, of Seattle, was driving a Chevrolet pickup east on SR-26 and struck Howes’ vehicle. Sunde was injured and taken to Othello Community Hospital, WSP stated.

No drugs or alcohol were involved in the accident, WSP stated.

K-9 security team joins staff at Confluence

WENATCHEE — A security dog will be patrolling the halls of Central Washington Hospital, part of an expansion of the security team for Confluence Health. Atlas, a three-year-old German Shepherd, and his handler Justin Bennett will be on the hospital campus and at Confluence Health’s Mares building on Chelan Avenue in Wenatchee.

Ephrata PD releases statement on jail death investigation

EPHRATA – The Ephrata Police Department released a statement Tuesday indicating that the Central Basin Investigative Team, a joint task force made up of law enforcement agencies from around the region, is investigating the death of Richard Lambert, an inmate at the Grant County Jail.
