COEUR d’ALENE — Holly Hudson converted on a penalty kick in the 76th minute to break a 1-1 tie as the Coeur d’Alene Vikings past the Lake City Timberwolves 2-1 in an Inland Empire League match at the Irma Anderl Soccer Complex on Wednesday.

“We just wanted to stick to our gameplan and capitalize on our moments,” Coeur d’Alene coach Andy Vredenburg said. “The girls played awesome. We played with a lot of intensity, especially in the second half, and won a lot of the 50/50 balls. The girls came out and never gave up when they fell behind. They just played stronger and harder.”

Claire Romero opened the scoring in the third minute for Lake City, which outshot Coeur d’Alene 20-10.

“We’ve got to do a better job of closing out games, especially at home,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “Coeur d’Alene came to play, and I didn’t do a good enough job getting our girls ready to play in training on Tuesday. We didn’t play concise today, and that’s my fault. Coeur d’Alene did enough to get a result today.”
