RENO, Nev. (AP) — Bars, taprooms, wineries and breweries will remain closed in Las Vegas but allowed to reopen as early as next week in the Reno-Sparks area under strict guidelines intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19, a state task force decided Thursday.

The re-openings in Washoe County will begin at 12 a.m. next Thursday, subject to the COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force's approval of minor modifications by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday.

The move came after about 30 local bar owners formed the Washoe County Bar/Taproom Coalition and agreed to comprehensive operating standards, KRNV-TV reported.

The panel accepted the plan partly because the county’s positive rate is below 10% and trending downward, the Reno Gazette Journal reported.

The task force didn't vote on any other county mitigation measures. Task Force Chairman Caleb Cage said he opposed re-openings in Clark County due to its high positivity rate, 11.2%.

In Washoe County, bars will be at 50% maximum capacity with tables spaced 6 feet (1.8 meters) apart.

Bar employees will be screened for coronavirus before work and required to wear masks at all times. Customers will not be allowed inside bars without face coverings.

Nevada reported 288 new COVID-19 cases Thursday and 17 deaths, for statewide totals of 72,546 and 1,429.
