Mattawa woman dies in accident

A Mattawa resident died in a collision Saturday north of Mattawa. Minerva Icezaga Cruz, 30, was a passenger in a Honda Pilot driven by Sergio Garcia Garcia, 24, of Mattawa, on Road 23 Southwest when the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at state Route 243, according to Washington State Patrol.
Sergio Bernal, 53, of Royal City, was driving a Peterbilt semi and trailer south on SR-243 and struck the Honda, WSP stated.
Cruz died at the scene. Bernal was not injured. Garcia was injured and taken to Central Washington Hospital, in Wenatchee. According to WSP, charges are pending.
