A burn ban has been placed in areas within the Sam Owens Fire District as of an emergency meeting of the Sam Owens Fire District Commissioners Sept. 12, according to a press release.
Building or attending to any fires, including campfires or stove fires is prohibited. In addition, smoking except within enclosed vehicles or buildings, or in a designated recreation area, and operating motor vehicles off of designated roads and trails is also prohibited.
Between 1 p.m. and 1 a.m., operating equipment such as a chainsaw that is powered by an internal combustion engine, and welding or other activities that can generate flame are prohibited. Following these activities, a patrol is required for one hour after cessation of the activity.
Exemptions may be made for people with a written exemption from the Fire Chief, or individuals using a fire solely fueled by liquid petroleum within a contained device used for cooking.
