UPCOMING:

SUPREME COURT-VACANCY: President Donald Trump marveled at a rally this week about how important the Supreme Court nominations are to voters, but it’s what keeps Senate Republicans by his side. Republicans are plunging ahead to quickly confirm Trump’s upcoming nominee, intent on achieving a generational priority despite the possibility of blowback in the November election. UPCOMING: 800 words, photos by 4 p.m.

TRUMP-BOLTON BOOK: White House officials repeatedly exerted political pressure in an unsuccessful effort to block the release of former national security adviser John Bolton’s tell-all book, according to a court filing from a career government records professional who fly-specked the book for classified material. UPCOMING: 600 words, photos by 4 p.m.

ELECTION 2020-VOTER VOICES-SUPREME COURT: The death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has set off a contentious political fight in Washington, but conversations with dozens of voters in battleground states suggest the vacancy isn’t top of mind for voters grappling with a pandemic, school closures and a shaky economy. UPCOMING: 1100 words, photos by 4 p.m.

SENT/DEVELOPING:

TRUMP-CUBA: President Trump announces the U.S. will bar Americans from bringing Cuban cigars and rum into the U.S. under new sanctions intended to financially starve the island’s government. The move comes as Trump courts the votes of Cuban Americans and floats the name of a Cuban American from electorally important Florida as a possible nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. SENT: 350 words, photos. Will be updated.

ELECTION 2020 - TRUMP -ABORTION: President Donald Trump says he’ll be signing an executive order that would require health care providers to provide medical care to all babies born alive as he makes an election-year push to energize voters opposed to abortion. SENT: 450 words, photos. Will be updated.

VIRUS -OUTBREAK -MILESTONE -POLITICS: With the nation’s COVID-19 death toll at 200,000, President Trump is engaged in an ongoing war against his administration’s own scientists. Over the past six months, the Trump administration has prioritized politics over science at key moments, refusing to follow expert advice that might have contained the spread of the coronavirus and the disease it causes. SENT: 1880 words, photos. An Abridged version is also available.

ELECTION 2020- BIDEN -UKRAINE: Two Republican-led Senate committees have issued a politically charged report on the work Joe Biden’s son did in Ukraine. Biden’s campaign immediately panned the report, released six weeks before the election, as an effort by an ally of Trump to damage his election opponent. SENT: 980 words, photos.

TRUMP-NIXON LETTERS: There were two men in 1980s Manhattan who craved validation — one a past president, one a future president. That’s how a thirty-something Donald Trump and a seventy-ish Richard Nixon struck up a decade-long correspondence in the 1980s. Their letters were shared exclusively with the Associated Press ahead of an exhibit that opens Thursday at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library & Museum. SENT: 1300 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020-BIDEN-ALWAYS LATE: With their packed schedules, relish for meeting as many people as possible and natural tendency toward verbosity, most presidential candidates - and the commanders in chief they sometimes become - rarely get anywhere, or do anything, on time. Even controlling for typical on-the-trail delays, however, Biden’s tardiness is becoming more conspicuous. SENT: 1070 words, photos.

DEMOCRATS -PRESIDENTIAL ABUSES: House Democrats are proposing a sweeping bill to curb presidential abuses. It’s a pitch to voters weeks ahead of Election Day as they try to defeat President Donald Trump, capture the Senate from Republicans and keep their House majority. SENT: 900 words, photos.

ELECTION 2020 -PENCE -MINNEAPOLIS: Vice President Pence visits Minneapolis Thursday, bringing President Trump’s law-and-order campaign message to the city where George Floyd’s death touched off a worldwide protest movement. SENT: 800 words, photos.

EXPLAINING ELECTION – 2020- VOTING SYSTEMS: Today’s election question for AP’s Vision 2020:Election Question: What steps have been taken to protect the nation’s election systems from potential interference by foreign powers like Russia?
