MOYIE SPRINGS — Law enforcement officials responded to reports of gunshots and a fire in the 6900 block of Perkins Lake Road in Moyie Springs Tuesday night.

Around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the Boundary County Sheriff's Office received a call from a man who said there had been a shooting and his wife was trapped inside of a house that was on fire. Law enforcement arrived on the scene soon thereafter, and found the lone residential building on the property was on fire.

Law enforcement reported ammunition cooking off due to the house fire coming into contact with stored ammunition.

Multiple local fire departments were called onto the scene to manage the fire and contained the fire to the residence; no other buildings or surrounding areas were damaged.

According to law enforcement communication, a suspect has been apprehended and is in police custody. However, no charges have been made at this time.

Idaho State Police Detective Paul Berger, and Bonners Ferry Chief David Winey, were requested on the scene for the morning after.

First responders cited concerns over the crime scene being too hot to investigate and required an overnight cooling-off period.

Investigators from the Idaho State Police and the Idaho State Fire Marshal's Office are assisting with the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing and more details will be published as they are released.
