BONNERS FERRY — The Bonners Ferry High School girls’ soccer team dropped its first game in over two weeks Friday evening, falling to Grangeville 3-1 at home on senior night in a rain-soaked affair.

After a positive COVID-19 case forced the girls’ soccer team to quarantine for two weeks, and thus cancel all practices and games during that time, the Badgers (3-2-1) fought hard in their first game action in 17 days.

A lone Friday morning practice was the Badgers’ first in two weeks, and the only team preparation for Friday evening’s game.

Grangeville drew first blood, going up 1-0 early before junior forward Morgan Burt scored the equalizer, evening things up at 1-1 in front of a packed crowd of Badgers fans.

The tie didn’t last long, though, as Grangeville scored in the waning minutes of the first half to take its second lead of the game, one it wouldn’t relinquish again.

A few minutes into the second half, Grangeville scored to go up 3-1, and when a few good chances from both sides came up empty in the final 30 minutes, the Badgers had suffered their first loss in nearly a month, and their first in September.

The Bonners Ferry girls’ soccer team will be back in action on Monday at 6 p.m. when it travels to Timberlake for a road matchup.
