Badgers boys', girls' soccer teams fail to pick up road wins

SPIRIT LAKE — Neither Bonners Ferry High School soccer team was able to pick up a road win on Monday night, as the boys team tied Timberlake 1-1 and the girls team dropped a close 1-0 game.
The Badgers girls (3-3-1) couldn’t break through and get on the scoreboard despite an onslaught of shots on goal from senior midfielder Emma Pinkerton, junior forward Morgan Burt, senior forward Madi McIntyre and Brenly Hymas.
Senior goalkeeper Anna Bliss kept the Badgers in the game and within striking distance all night long, turning away 12 shots and coming through on a number of difficult saves to hold Timberlake to its lone goal, which was scored in the game's 76th minute.
In the boys game, the Badgers (5-0-2) followed up an impressive 9-0 drubbing of Grangeville on Friday afternoon with a sloppy performance against fellow Intermountain League foe Timberlake.
Timberlake scored just eight minutes into the game by way of a Bonners Ferry own goal off a free kick that the Badgers’ defenders knocked in. It would be a while before Bonners Ferry could even it up, as it took until the final 10 minutes for the Badgers to get on the scoreboard with a goal from senior midfielder Ian Beazer to secure the tie.
“[We] missed plenty of opportunities to win the game,” said boys’ head coach Brycen Lunger. “We didn’t take advantage of what was given to us … Monday’s game was a great learning experience. If you don’t learn from a game like that then you can’t become a better team.”
With the tie, the boys team kept its undefeated streak alive, as it has yet to lose a game this season.
The Bonners Ferry boys team will be back in action at home on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. against Immaculate Conception, and the girls team will return to play on Saturday at 3 p.m. for a home game against Post Falls.
