DARRINGTON, Wash. (AP) — Adam L. Johnson, 29, of Anacortes died Saturday while hiking Vesper Peak in the Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, the Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s Office announced Tuesday.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team found Johnson’s body Sunday, The Daily Herald reported. He died of drowning and blunt-force injuries, an autopsy showed.

Johnson reportedly set out for a day hike and was supposed to return by 8 p.m. Saturday, according to the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. When he didn’t show up or contact his girlfriend, she reported him as missing.

A sheriff's office helicopter crew spotted his body Sunday in a creek and search and rescuers hiked in to recover his body. The medical examiner's office said his manner of death was an accident.
