Late Tuesday morning, first graders at the First graders at Farmin Stidwell Elementary School lined up to collect their stuffed puppies for the school's "Reading Puppies" event.
The program is meant to help encourage early reading, said first grade teacher Leana Nitcy. Children record time spent reading with their parents, and are rewarded with things for their reading puppy: "Adoption paperwork," vet kits, and collars, to name a few.
