SANDPOINT — No injuries were reported after a plane crashed at Sandpoint Airport on Saturday morning.

The pilot, a 36-year-old from Washington state, was conducting touch-and-go landings at the airport when the crash occurred, according to Sandpoint Police Chief Corey Coon.

"It appears on his second touch he hit hard, causing the crash," Coon said.

The plane went off the runway and overturned, Coon said. There were no injuries to the pilot or bystanders, Coon added.

Touch-and-go landings are reportedly a common maneuver among pilots who are learning to operated fixed-wing aircraft. It involves landing on a runway and taking off without coming to a full stop.

The plane crash was reported at 11:24 a.m. toward the southern end of the airport, near Daher's Kodiak manufacturing plant.

The plane involved in the crash was a Cessna 172B, according to its Federal Aviation Administration registration number. It was manufactured in 1960.

The plane is registered to a Sandpoint-based flight instruction service.
