Troy City Councilors approved a grant that will bolster the municipality’s police force during the summer season.

Tracy Rebo, city clerk and treasurer, said the city has received the $5,000 grant, awarded annually by the Montana Department of Transportation (DOT), for years. Councilors signed off on the funds during a March 17 meeting.

The grant will go towards reimbursing work done by law enforcement officials at events from March 5 to September 30. Patrols backed by the grant will be on the lookout for impaired driving and seat belt infractions, according to an agreement between Troy City Police Department and DOT. The patrols should also be conducted with the Montana Highway Patrol or the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.

Funds for the grant ultimately come from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, part of the U.S. Department of Transportation.
