TROY, Mont. — The small, but mighty Clark Fork tennis team opened its season with a match at Troy last Thursday.

"It was good for the team to finally play a match after almost two years," head coach Jeff Emmer wrote in an email. " ... We always enjoy going up to Troy and playing what is really more of a friendly scrimmage. They are a wonderful group."

All three Wampus Cats won their singles matches against the Trojans.

Blaine Williams didn't drop a game in his battle with Troy's Winter Sedler, winning his match 6-0, 6-0.

Wesley Simko had no trouble taking care of the Trojans' No. 1 singles player, claiming a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Eli Engelhart also faced Sedler and found himself in quite the fight. After cruising to a 6-1 first-set victory, things got interesting for Engelhart in the second as Sedler forced a tiebreaker for the set.

Thankfully, Engelhart prevailed to secure a 6-1, 7-6 (11-9) win.

During this week, Sandpoint head tennis coach Kent Anderson extended an invite to the Clark Fork players to join the Bulldogs for their spring break sessions, Emmer said.

"That will really be great for the guys," Emmer wrote.

The Wampus Cats head to Lewiston for a handful of matches on Saturday, April 17.
