The Montana Department of Transportation will resume nighttime construction on its Kalispell Concrete Rehab project starting Monday, April 12.

Crews will complete “light electrical work” around the intersection of Idaho Street and Main Street in downtown Kalispell, lasting for approximately two weeks.

A majority of the work will occur Monday through Friday during nighttime hours, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Drivers can expect single-lane closures, directional signage, signals, and lowered speed limits in the area during this time.

Residents and businesses can expect minor noise during nighttime construction, and all travelers should prepare for delays of up to 15 minutes. Pedestrians and cyclists are encouraged to utilize sidewalks or use an alternative route.

Motorists are reminded to use caution while driving in the area and recognize that although most work will take place at night, the construction area is a 24-hour work zone.

Later this spring, crews will return to the project area to install road signage and pavement markings.

The project’s current focus is the installation of radar detective systems at intersections within the 1.6-mile project area along Idaho Street and Main Street. This technology will monitor volume and speed of traffic.

During the summer of 2020, crews completed 1.6 miles of concrete preservation work on Main Street between Sixth Street and Washington Street, and on Idaho Street between Meridian Road and Seventh Avenue East North. During that time, crews ground down the existing pavement, sealed roadway joints and cracks, and repaired the concrete where necessary. According to MDT, “This work was essential to preserving and maintaining a functioning roadway for years to come.”
