Annual 'Shredfest' to return April 24

Columbia Bank in Sandpoint will be holding its annual “Shredfest” on Saturday, April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The bank has been offering the service for over 10 years, said branch manager Luke Hedquist, and it’s one of only a few banks in the area to offer the service to its customers.
“We do it to protect our clients,” he said. “We want to give them a good resource to destroy their personal financial information.”
Customers can bring up to three boxes or grocery bags full of documents, which are shredded by an industrial shredder. The papers fill a truckload before being taken away for incineration.
Although the demand for the service can vary year to year, there have been times when cars line down the street, he said. The bank gets customers from all over Bonner County and occasionally has gotten customers who come to shred their papers from Montana.
