Roundup: Roberts takes third at NCR XC Championships

Cross Country

North Central Region schools wrapped up the cross country season last Thursday with the NCR Cross Country Championships at Walla Walla Point Park in Walla Walla.

Cascade High School took first as a team in the boys event. Moses Lake High School finished third, followed in fourth by Ephrata High School. Royal High School took sixth and Quincy High School finished 14th.

Ephrata’s Hayden Roberts capped off a strong season with a third-place overall finish in the 5,000 meter event. Moses Lake’s Ethan Labonte placed ninth.

Nicholas Elliot finished 13th for the Chiefs. Joaquin Meza took the top finish for the Knights, placing 16th.

Hans Roberts (EPH), 20. Hayden Malone (EPH), 25. Abraham Montoya (ROY), 29. Jack O’Shea (ML), 35. David Trail (ROY), 38. Devon Taylor (ML), 39. Logan Labonte (ML), 47. Aidan Devine (EPH), 48. Yahir Morales (ROY), 49. Santiago Gonzalez (ROY)

In the girls event, Wenatchee High School took the top spot in team scores. Moses Lake finished fourth, followed by Royal High School in fifth.

Moses Lake’s Paige Perkins placed eighth overall, while Sydney Burke, of Royal, finished 11th. Kenia Orth finished just 15 seconds behind Burke, placing 13th.

Quincy’s Jane Kennedy placed 14th to lead the Jacks. Ephrata’s Alexa Laughlin took the top spot for the Tigers, at 18th.

Men’s Basketball

Big Bend 101, Yakima Valley 96

Jahvonta Jones led the Vikings with 29 points and 9 rebounds in the win on Tuesday night at Big Bend Community College. Keenan Miller added 26 points and 7 boards in the win. Head coach Mingo Scott said both players played great floor games.
