THOMPSON FALLS, Mont. — The Bonners Ferry softball team earned a road victory over Thomspon Falls in an April 10 nonconference matchup, with the Badgers opening an early lead en route to a 21-7 win.
After winning the opener of the scheduled doubleheader, the second game was canceled due to snow and only went to the second inning.
Head coach Kassy Skeen stated she was very proud of the team and couldn’t pinpoint a standout player because everyone was in sync, and all showed improvement.
“All played amazing and played such as a team that it was just incredible to watch and see them grow from their past games into this game as a team,” Skeen said.
According to Skeen, the team was able to play successfully on offense and defense and got some great plays during the game.
Pitcher Anna Bliss had 9 strikeouts in the game; teammates Rose Owens, Kaylee Sumpter, Jodee Curtis, and Savannah Rickter scored 3 runs each.
The weather presented challenges for both teams, and as the second inning began for the second matchup, officials canceled the match because of the snow.
“The weather was incredible conditions — we played in snow, hail, sun and a ton of wind, but the girls were all troopers, and they finished so strong and so positive and completely as a team,” Skeen stated.
