SPIRIT LAKE — Timberlake is the third ranked team in the 3A classification and on Thursday they played like it, handing Sandpoint softball a 20-2 loss.

The victory allowed the Tigers to complete a season sweep of the Bulldogs.

Sandpoint struck first, but 11 runs by the Tigers in the second inning was too much for SHS to overcome. The game was called in the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.

"We came out flat today," head coach Elizabeth Hawkins-Williams said. "We did not play aggressive on defense, so we were caught on our heels a lot. Timberlake was able to take advantage of that and maintain momentum the entire game."

Kinzie Ward recorded two hits in the game, and Jacey Cash, Jaidyn Inman, Riley Cessna and Kalila Tuinstra each had one.

Jaden Dickinson stepped on the mound in the fourth inning and relieved Cresanna Authier. Hawkins-Williams said Dickinson had a strong outing.

"She was able to hit her spots and stop the offense of Timberlake," she said. "It’s difficult to come off the bench at the end of a game and be effective, but she came out and struck out the first batter. I was proud of her presence on the mound today."

Hawkins-Williams said this game was a learning experience for her squad and she was glad they were able to put the ball in play and secure plenty of time on the bases.

Sandpoint (6-5) heads to Post Falls at noon Saturday.
