Weekly roundup: Othello dominant in season-opening doubleheader

Othello 17 West Valley 0, Othello 22 West Valley 3

Breanna Marquina scored two homers for the Huskies in the opening game of Wednesday’s double header, including a grand slam as Marquina finished with seven RBIs. Ori Vasquez picked up the win on the mound, allowing five hits in five innings with no errors.

Emily Garza knocked a pair of home runs for Othello in the second game, finishing with four RBIs on a 3-4 day from the plate. Marquina added her third home run of the day in the second game, finishing 4-4 from the plate with four RBIs.

Maya Valdez picked up the win on the mound, surrendering just three runs on five hits with one error.

Royal 5 Almira-Coulee-Hartline 0

Madison Ortega-Sanchez finished with 16 strikeouts in seven innings on the mound for Royal, surrendering just one hit to ACH. Jaya Griffin and Addison Lawrence led the offensive attack for the Knights with a pair of hits each in the win.

Moses Lake 10 Eastmont 7

Six runs in the top of the fifth inning helped Moses Lake retake the lead on their way to a win in the season opener on the road on Tuesday. Carson Janke finished 2-3 from the plate for the Chiefs, with two runs earned and a triple on the day. Asher Lindgren finished 2-3 from the plate, while Zane Harden finished 2-4 for Moses Lake.

Boys soccer

Moses Lake 2 Royal 1

Oscar Garcia scored off an assist from Lalo Taboada for Moses Lake, while Brayden Millard added a second goal off an assist from Jesus Garcia as the Chiefs picked up the win on the road against Royal. Josue Rodriguez scored for Royal off an assist from Eliseo Romero.

Royal head coach Jens Jensen said the team looked okay given the short prep time with spring break, but said they will need to be better next game to play at the level he expects.

Wahluke 8 Brewster 0

Seven different Warriors scored for Wahluke in their win over Brewster earlier this week. Yahir Adame scored two for Wahluke, while Ismael Suarez, Orlando Erazo, Deigo Olivares, Erick Lopez, Oscar Perez and Brian Herrera each finished with one goal.

Orlando Erazo and Erick Lopez each added assists in the win, while Arnold Ramos, Orlando Nunez and Oscar Sanchez added the other assists for Wahluke in the win.
