School elections are May 4 with contested trustee races in several school districts.

Information on candidates will be published throughout the week. Candidates were invited to respond to questions emailed by the Daily Inter Lake to provide voters with more information such as a candidate’s background, experience and reason for running.

The following information is for Cayuse Prairie School District candidates. There are three candidates running for two three-year terms — incumbent Meghan Roe, Tyson Roe and Pavlo Shokur.

A mail-ballot election will be held. The district has until April 19 to mail ballots to registered voters. Ballots may be returned by mail or in-person to the district office, 897 Lake Blaine Road, Kalispell. The district must receive ballots by 8 p.m. May 4.

Name: Meghan Roe (i)

Occupation: Virtual assistant

Background/experience: I have been a member of the Cayuse Prairie Board of Trustees for two years. I am currently the board president for the Columbia Falls summer swim team.

Why are you running? I am running for the board because I believe students come first and Cayuse Prairie does an amazing job of making sure the students come first. Cayuse Prairie is a great school and I want to ensure that it remains as such. As a trustee, I am there to represent the community and ensure that the community and the school are working together in the best interest of the kids.

If elected, is there anything you want to see accomplished? I would like to delve a little deeper into the strategic plan for Cayuse Prairie School.

Name: Tyson Roe

Occupation: Mental health and substance use counselor

Background/experience: Middle school teacher; elementary special education teacher; school counselor; high school special education teacher; high school football coach.

Why are you running? I am interested in serving on the Cayuse Prairie school board because my daughters go to school at Cayuse and I have a background in education. I value public school education and what it has to offer for our communities. I want to be a part of helping lead our school into the future.
