EPHRATA — Businesses with losses in 2020 due to COVID-19 may be eligible for a deferral on their 2021 property taxes.

Grant County Treasurer Darryl Pheasant said the deferral was approved by the Washington Legislature on Friday and business owners have until April 30 to apply.

“Businesses that apply for the program and establish a payment plan with the Grant County Treasurer will not have interest and penalties applied to their taxes due, as long as the business remains compliant with the payment plan,” Pheasant said.

To be eligible, businesses must show they suffered a revenue loss of at least 25% from 2019 to 2020, Pheasant said. Qualifying properties must be used primarily for business purposes and set up a payment plan with the treasurer’s office.

The payment plan starts in May and must be completed by November, Pheasant said. After Nov. 30, any unpaid taxes would be subject to penalties and fees.

For more information, contact the treasurer’s office, 509-754-2011, extension 4253. A link to the application form is on the Grant County Treasurer website, https://www.grantcountywa.gov/Treasurer.

Road closures, roundabout, mean construction season underway

EPHRATA — The grass is starting to turn green, the trees are starting to leaf out, construction crews are starting to build roundabouts – hey, it’s spring. The intersection of State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way will be closed the week of April 6 to allow crews to install permanent lights. “This really is the final (closure),” wrote Grant County Administrator Tom Gaines in a media release. “The roundabout will close at 6 a.m. Monday, and we plan to reopen by Friday, possibly sooner if the work finishes early.”
