PR softball struggles to slow down Timberlake, Kellogg

PRIEST RIVER — The Priest River softball team was unable to notch a win across five games this past week. The Spartans were 10-run ruled in each game.
"They were all really rough games for us," head coach Ron Kruse said. "Our inexperience led to lots of errors and very lopsided scores. Our young pitchers are trying their hardest, but with only a handful of games under their belts giving the other teams extra outs makes it difficult to get any rhythm going."
On Tuesday, Priest River was swept by Kellogg in an Intermountain League doubleheader.
In the first game, the Spartans fell 33-11. The Wildcats scored 10 runs in the first and second innings to run away with the victory.
Shelby Hanna recorded two hits in the game, and Lilly Freitas, Jaylein Zylstra, Kylee Lederle, Faith Spaude and Ona Rose each had one.
Lederle tallied three hits in the second game as Kellogg cruised to a 23-5 win. The game was tied 2-2 after the second inning, but in the top of third the Wildcats scored 10 runs.
The Spartans were also swept by Timberlake in a home doubleheader on Friday. They had two hits in the series.
Troy evened the season series with Priest River by claiming a 28-9 win over the Spartans last Thursday.
