PR softball drops doubleheaders at Timberlake, Bonners Ferry

SPIRIT LAKE — The Priest River softball team was shut out in a doubleheader at Timberlake on Monday.

The victories allowed the Tigers to complete a season sweep of the Spartans.

Across the series Monday, Priest River only recorded three hits.

In the first game, the Spartans walked 18 batters and hit eight, allowing Timberlake to cruise to a 20-0 win.

Ona Rose had the only hit for Priest River in the game — a double in the third inning.

The Tigers won the second game 18-0. Jaylein Zylstra and Brodie Hansen each tallied a hit.

Last Friday, the Spartans headed to Bonners Ferry for a doubleheader and the offense came alive in the first game.

Priest River trailed 13-12 after the top of the fourth, but in the bottom of the inning the Badgers broke out for nine runs and never looked back to secure a 22-12 victory.

Hansen recorded three RBIs in the game and Chazzity Watt had two. Freitas and Shelby Hanna each had two hits in the game.

In the second game, Bonners Ferry gained control early by scoring 11 runs in the first inning. The Spartans couldn't recover from the deficit and fell 18-2.

Freitas recorded two hits and Hansen and Hanna each grabbed one.

Priest River (1-14, 0-8 IML) will look to get back in the win column when they head to Kellogg at 3 p.m. Friday for a doubleheader.
