COEUR d'ALENE — The annual rummage sale at Community United Methodist Church is set for 9 to 3 p.m. Friday and 8 to noon on Saturday.

The fundraiser has generated thousands of dollars in its estimated 20-year history, with money going toward local mission work and organizations, as well as regionally, nationally and internationally.

“We send money around the world to support women and children,” said Suzanne Zabriskie, one of the organizers.

The event is put on by the local chapter of United Methodist Women, with Melissa Jaquette as its president. It was canceled last year due to the coronavirus.

This year, it promises to be bigger and better than ever. Donations filled the sanctuary and overflowed into a room across the hall on Wednesday.

“Because of COVID, people were clearing out closets and basements,” said Karen Grindle, another organizer. “We have just been blessed abundantly.”

Collectibles, art, clothes, toys, books, sporting and home goods await buyers, who are expected to arrive early.

Tickets are also being offered in a drawing for a colorful quilt.

“You name it, we have it,” Zabriskie said.

Shoppers won’t find prices on items, as everything is being offered by donation. While that opens the door for bargain hunters to swoop up lots of stuff for a few bucks, Grindle said they are confident everyone will give from the heart as the money goes to good causes that benefit young and old.

“People are generous that way,” she said.
