SANDPOINT — The North Idaho Lakers American Legion Baseball program celebrated the end of another successful season with a barbecue and a pair of alumni games on Saturday afternoon at Pine Street Field.

The 16U Lakers were up first and took on coaches, dads and alumni of the team. Lakers General Manager KC MacDonald said the 16U team “didn’t take it easy on the old guys,” winning 9-1.

In the second game, fans got treated to an epic back and forth battle between the 19U Lakers and alumni. The 19U team surged ahead in the sixth inning and held on for a 11-7 victory.

During the celebration, Tom Spade from American Legion Post 15 donated $500 to the Lakers program. He also presented the colors for the playing of the national anthem prior to the alumni doubleheader.

MacDonald said he hopes to make the alumni games an annual event again and thanked the Lakers’ sponsors — Peak Sand and Gravel, American Legion Post 15, Pat Gooby from Aaron’s Storage and Jack and Mary Jo Ambrosiani from the Ambrosiani-Pastore Foundation — for their continued support.

The 16U Lakers won the Washington American Legion class A Area 3 title this summer and earned a berth to state for the first time since 2018. The 19U Lakers went 16-18 and fell just a few wins short of making it to state.

“We look forward to another great year in 2022,” MacDonald said.
