Fall sports forced indoors due to poor air quality
Bonner County Daily Bee | UPDATED 5 years, 2 months AGO
It's that time of year again — when the smoke forces fall sports to go indoors.
It happens every year at this point, but that doesn't make it less of a headache. The thick fog rolled in Wednesday night and local teams scrambled Thursday morning to schedule practice plans in a smokeless environment. Fortunately, area coaches are used to the disruption so figuring things out on the fly wasn't as challenging.
The Sandpoint football team took refuge inside the SHS gymnasium for walkthroughs and drills. The Bulldog cross country ran up and down the high school hallways — the perfect preparation for the mad dash between classes this fall.
It's just part of life in North Idaho and it looks like the smoke will be sticking around at least through the weekend.
As of 8 p.m. Thursday, the Air Quality Index in Sandpoint was in the very unhealthy range at 287, according to AirNow.gov.
