KELLOGG — Residents displaced by the Deceitful fire were allowed to return to their homes Friday.

Burning north of the Silver Valley, the Deceitful fire has torched more than 12,000 acres so far — including 4,400 acres of growth from Monday night, when the fire went on a five-mile run that forced residents to evacuate.

Areas now under Level 2 evacuation orders include:

• Eagle
• Murray
• Beaver Creek (from Babin’s Junction to the top of Dobson’s Pass)
• Coeur d’Alene River Road (from Hopkin’s Creek to Lutherhaven)
• Coal Creek Community from the Coeur d’Alene River Road mile marker 13 (east of Castle Rock) to mile marker 18

Residents in the area should still be prepared to evacuate, with supplies gathered and vehicles fueled and ready to go.

Road closures are in place between Babin’s Junction and King’s Pass Road along Beaver Creek, as well as from the junction of Coeur d’Alene River Road with Prichard Creek Road to King’s Pass Road in Murray.

Those with primary residences in these areas will be allowed in the closure area for home access only.

Residents must have a Shoshone County license plate and ID for access. There will be no exceptions.

Coeur d’Alene River Road is open for through-traffic only from Steamboat Pond to Shoshone Mountain Retreat.

No stopping, parking or recreating is allowed in the area.

Closures will be strictly enforced, officials said Friday. Conditions may change based on fire activity.

The Deceitful fire was 10% contained as of Friday afternoon.
