I have deep North Idaho roots and graduated from Eastern Washington University with an English degree with a creative writing emphasis with a minor in film. I worked at at the Bonner County Daily Bee before coming to work at the Bonners Ferry Herald in August 2021. I enjoy writing for the paper that my great-grandfather read and covering the same small town community that is still alive today. I cover all things Badger sports, local politics and government, community news, business, outdoors and appear on the 7Bee podcast for the Herald's update. When I'm not working I can be found reading a good book and sipping tea, knitting or attempting to sign opera. | August 27, 2021 1:00 AM
SANDPOINT— MickDuff’s Brewing Co. was officially presented with the Orchid Award Thursday from Preservation Idaho for Excellence in Historic Preservation after preserving the old federal building.
Since 1977, Preservation Idaho has hosted the annual Orchids & Onions Awards as a ceremony designed to celebrate individuals and organizations that have made a positive contribution to historic preservation and to bring awareness to those projects that have been insensitive to historic preservation.
Mickey and Duff Mahoney of MickDuff's Brewing Company were unable to attend the ceremony in Boise this year. Instead they had a smaller award ceremonial on the patio of MickDuff’s new location.
The brothers purchased the old federal building, located at 419 N. Second Ave., in September 2019 and then spent the next 15 months restoring and preserving the building.
One of the most historic buildings in the area, the building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.
Stephen Gavan and Carrie Logan of Sandpoint’s History Preservation Commission presented the Orchid Award to Mickey and Duffy Mahoney.
