The Union Gospel Mission Thrift Store opened Thursday at 7761 Government Way in Hayden.

“It’s an exciting day for the community and for the UGM Center for Women and Children,” said Executive Director Phil Altmeyer.

He thanked supporters for helping the store to open debt-free.

“All proceeds will support our work here — providing life-changing recovery to women and children in crisis," he said.

Altmeyer said shopping at the thrift store is another way people can support their work. All the donations stay local, providing employment and helping people in need.

Hayden Mayor Steve Griffitts said they are blessed to have UGM Thrift Store in Hayden.

“We are grateful for the wonderful contributions of Union Gospel Mission to our community," he said.

Initially, the store will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. For now, donations are being accepted at the Center for Women and Children at 196 W. Haycraft Ave. in Coeur d’Alene.

The store is looking to hire employees and will open with a full schedule when staffed.
