Arnold Eugene Roberts, 94, passed away on Monday, November 15, 2021, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Services will be held next spring.
Arnold was born on September 4, 1927, in Sandpoint, Idaho, in a small house on Pine Street, the youngest of four children to Bud and Maude Roberts.
Arnold lived in Sandpoint throughout his childhood and attended Sandpoint High School. He married at a young age and was drafted into the Army at 25. After the Army he returned home, drove truck for Buck Clark, married Vivian Plaster in 1953, and had two sons. In 1960, he married Gloria Evans, drove truck for Winn West and Merritt Bros. He retired at age 77.
Arnold enjoyed life, he delighted in visiting people and giving a helping hand when he could. He enjoyed fishing in small streams and lakes. He loved riding horses, singing and playing his guitar. He played in the “Bullshippers Band” for many years and participated in other bands throughout his life. He was president of the Rodeo Club in Sandpoint, helped build the rodeo grounds at the Bonner County Fair and was the announcer for rodeos and horse shows. He was a member of the Back Country Horseman’s Association, building trails and hauling materials to look-outs by horseback. His favorite trails were the American Falls in Montana, PeWe Creek Trail, Pack River and the High drive. He rode his favorite horse of 31 years “Ranger” in the Fourth of July parades.
Arnold was known as the tall cowboy with his western shirt, cowboy hat and boots. He lived his life to the fullest, including his last few years at Life Care Center and Valley Vista Care Center, where he still wore his western shirt, cowboy hat, cowboy boot slippers.
He is survived by three children, Diane (Hans) Olson of Longview, Washington, Dale (Debbie) Roberts of Cocolalla, Idaho, and Douglas (Lawana) Roberts of Cocolalla; step-daughter, Jeannie (Ed) Erickson of Palmer, Alaska; 16 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Betty Finley and Gloria Evans; two brothers, Jerry Richmond and Claude Roberts; a sister, Roberta Roberts; step-daughter, Jewel Willford; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
