County commissioners handle routine business

SANDPOINT – Tuesday’s county commissioners meeting took care of a host of housekeeping matters, with the board allocating $519,455.59 in county money for purchasing ammunition, lease agreements, and routine expenditures.

Beginning by approving the consent agenda including five liquor licences, two minor land divisions, and $39,936.57 in invoices by the Bonner County Sheriff’s Office for new car parts and ammunition.

The Clerk's Office brought two action items before the commission, both being claims and demand batches totaling $469,519.02. The funds are used for routine budget expenditures for county agencies, including emergency services. The commissioners approved both items.

The Assessor’s Office asked the commissioners to approve a contract with Canon America Inc. for a copy machine lease at the Priest River DMV. The lease costs $142 per month. Commissioners approved the agreement.

The Election’s Office requested permission to destroy records from a distant past election, as they have been kept for the obligated amount of time as outlined in Idaho Code. The decision was reviewed by the commission’s legal team and commissioners unanimously passed the resolution.

The Road and Bridge Department gained the commission’s approval to apply for $100,000 in grant funding from the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council. Funds will go toward reconstructing Garfield Bay Road in 2023 if the county is awarded the funds.

The Planning Department went before commissioners asking to hire a private contractor to aid the department in the application process for grant funding. Funding, if granted, would go toward the construction of a second access road in the Whisky Jack area that would connect with Oden Bay Road. The commission amended the action item, stipulating that they would only pay the contractor in $10,000 installments, with progress reports each time.

Afterward, Bonner County Commission Chairman Dan McDonald recessed the meeting for a brief period for an executive session where they discussed two action items involving hiring personnel.

The Board of County Commissioners hold public meetings every Tuesday at 9 a.m. in the administrative building at 1500 U.S. 2. Members of the public can comment on topics not on the agenda at the beginning of the meeting. Those interested in attending virtually can do so via Zoom, or by streaming on the Bonner County YouTube channel where an archive of previous meetings can be viewed.
