Glacier High School speech and debate team bested the Class AA competition in Bozeman this weekend, continuing an undefeated season.

Glacier slipped past Bozeman for the first-place win, scoring 162.5 overall points to Bozeman’s 150.5. Flathead High School placed third with 135.5 overall points. Columbia Falls High, a Class A school, placed seventh overall with 43 points. Among Class ABC teams, Columbia Falls was first and Whitefish High School, third.

“Wow! Winning in Bozeman is a big deal. I am so excited about the direction this team is heading. Winning by 12 points in this activity is so close, ” Glacier Head Coach Greg Adkins said in a press release.

Glacier was led by eight champions: Mason Fauth and Alexandra Houseworth in Varsity Policy Debate; Kevin Fortin in Novice Lincoln-Douglas Debate; Kaelin Holt and Avram Bingham in Duo Interpretation; Mac Adkins in Original Oratory; Lane McKoy in Informative Speaking and Aryana Allred in Memorized Public Address.

The tournament featured 36 teams, the largest of the season, according to Flathead Head Coach Shannon O’Donnell. It was the first face-off among the top three teams.

“It was a nail-biter finish, as a mere 27 points separated the top three teams, but the Glacier competitors rallied to finish strong in finals, edging past us and Bozeman,” O’Donnell said.

Flathead had three individual champions, including

Annelise Mason in Legislative Debate, James Francis in Humorous Interpretation and Ryan Tiet in Dramatic Interpretation.
