Senior Jack McAllister poured in 25 points Friday afternoon to lead the Hot Springs Savage Heat boys basketball team to a runaway 77-39 win over Lincoln in the first day of the two-day Ronan Tip-off basketball invitational.

The football star and rodeo rider scored eight of those points in the first quarter and along with 10 from 6-3 junior Nathan Lawhead helped propel the Savage Heat to a 29-8 first quarter lead.

Lawhead scored all 10 of his points during the first quarter as the Heat unveiled a solid, all-around team that could do some damage in this year’s 14C season.

Lincoln put on a brief rally in the second quarter in which they outscored Hot Springs 16-14 to set up a 43-24 Savage Heat halftime lead. However, the damage had already been done by McAllister and crew, who padded that lead in the third quarter.

The senior McAllister, who quarterbacked the Heat football team this year, was held to four points in the second quarter, including a three-pointer and a free throw, but erupted for 10 points in the Heat dominated third quarter during which they outscored the Lynx 24-9.

That put Hot Springs up 67-33 heading into the final quarter and this one was all but in the history books.

McAllister did not score in the fourth quarter as reserves got most of the playing time.

In addition to the 25 points from McAllister and 10 from Lawhead, the Heat also got 10 from G. Parker.

The Heat were 11 of 17 from the free throw line in what was perhaps their only flaw of the evening.

Hot Springs played its second game of the Ronan event against host Ronan JV, but no reports were available on the outcome of that game.

Next on the schedule for the Hot Springs boys are a pair of home games. This Friday night they take on Noxon, then face Seeley Saturday night.
