County commissioners approved a resolution of intent to annex property slated for development near Cabinet View Golf Club into the Lincoln County Rural Fire District last week.

The Dec. 1 motion brings the roughly 70-acre tract, which Libby dentist Ben Scott hopes to turn into a new residential neighborhood, one step closer to receiving guaranteed protection from Libby Volunteer Fire Department. Before finalizing the annexation, commissioners will hold a public hearing later this month.

The Nordic Way subdivision would feature 10 lots for single-family detached residential homes. Two of the lots would be just over 20 acres while the rest would be less than five acres. The properties would include septic systems, retention ponds and wells, according to documents filed with the county.

A trail with a public access easement would run from the subdivision to other trail systems in the Flower Creek area and the Cabinet View Golf Course. The property can be reached from Granite Lake and Snowshoe roads and is currently undeveloped timberland with openings.

The development would only result in small increases in local and non-local traffic, according to documents the county received.

Lincoln County commissioners approved a preliminary plat agreement for the subdivision in October.

The public hearing on the annexation is scheduled for 11:15 a.m., Dec. 15 in the commissioner’s room in the Lincoln County Courthouse.
