Get ready for Rathdrum's Frozen 5K

RATHDRUM – Get ready for a chilly twist on the typical fun run with Lakeland High School’s Frozen 5K on Jan. 15.
Proceeds from the annual run support Lakeland Senior High students. Last year over $4,000 was raised, said Allison Knoll, a Lakeland High School Student Council adviser.
“We were able to donate over $3,000 to the (Lions Club Nutritional Weekend) Backpack Program and the rest went to the Lakeland Strong Fund,” Knoll said. “Our goal this year is to raise $5,000 from this event so that we can continue to help kids and people in our community.”
The Lakeland Strong fund was established to support LHS students and families who have “encountered loss, tragedy or difficult circumstances,” Knoll said.
“The fund was created to make our school and community stronger as well as to raise awareness on issues such as mental health and suicide that have affected families in the past,” she said.
The backpack program supports students in need by sending them home every Friday with enough nutrition for the two- and three-day weekends.
“This means that with the money raised last year we were able to support 20 kids with food every weekend throughout the school year,” Knoll said.
The Frozen 5K will begin at 9 a.m. at Lakeland High School.
Registration will be $25 and includes a T-shirt designed by student Madison Hersh.
Sponsorships are available.
Participants who register before Dec. 31 receive a $5 price break. To sign up visit Tinyurl.com/LHSFrozen5k or contact Allison Knoll at [email protected]. Race day registration will be available.
