Dec. 14, 1921 – PARK LEASE FROM RAILWAY
At the chamber luncheon, a letter from the N.P. railway was read, stating the city could have an indefinite lease, subject to cancellation on 30 days’ notice, of ground in the railway’s original land grant from congress, along the lake shore, and a 99-year lease on other land since acquired, for use as a city park. Fleming, known to hordes of baseball bugs as “Mickey,” has purchased the cigar store, pool and card room at 222½ First avenue (Bernd building). “Mickey,” who has long since shifted from throwing slants across home to calling them for the other fellow, has named the business the Umpire cigar store.
