SANDPOINT – This winter, local youth will have the opportunity to improve their drama abilities through the Pend Oreille Arts Council.

Sandpoint Showstoppers is an afterschool program offered to youth aged 9 – 14. The program will offer weekly classes from January 10 – March 4, from 3:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

“Kids will enjoy expressing themselves creatively and have fun learning new skills,” said Tone Lund, POAC’s Executive Director.

Courtney Roberts will be the instructor for the eight week program.

“Our Sandpoint Showstoppers program has given young people the opportunity to break out of their shell, build new friendships, and embrace their creative side,” Roberts said, “It is a dream come true to provide this opportunity for youth in Sandpoint.”

The program is free to join, students will keep a drama journal and complete homework assignments in addition to weekly classes. Students have the option to choose between Monday and Friday sessions.

Lund urges those interested to register as soon as possible, as class sizes are limited. Applicants are accepted on a first come first serve basis.

“We are excited to offer our third session of this educational program,” Lund said, “Roberts brings a wealth of theatrical experience and a passion for working with young people,”

Applications are available at ArtinSandpoint.org, or at the POAC Office at 110 Main Street, Suite 101 in downtown Sandpoint. For more information, call 208-263-6139.

Pend Oreille Arts Council’s newest educational outreach is designed to prepare students with an understanding of the dramatic arts. The program’s mission is to present annual theatrical performances with local students.
